September 2000
- Adventureland has moved to if-legends.org.
The new URL is http://www.if-legends.org/~adventure/.
After many years of excellent work from Hans Persson I've taken over
Adventureland to this new home. Hans will however still maintain a
mirror at the old URL (http://www.lysator.liu.se/adventure/).
I'll do my best to continue with Hans' pioneer work and hope you'll
enjoy this site as much as you loved the old Adventureland.

February 16, 2000
- Modified the following company pages:
- Added some links.
- Merged the Tandy, Tandy 1000, and Tandy 2000 categories into a general
Tandy category and added some historical
information about the machines.
- Folded the MC-10 category (with only one game listed) into the TRS-80
Color category and added historical information here as well.
- Added historical information about the various TRS-80 models and lumped the TRS-80, TRS-80 Model
I, TRS-80 Model II, and TRS-80 Model III categories together with
a note about what models the game ran on.
- I have finally added an author index.
Perhaps it should be split over more than one page, but at least there's
an index.
- I still have lots of information that I haven't had time to enter
into the database, but if I should keep on working until I had no
more backlog there would never be a new update.
January 18, 2000
- Cleaned up the front page a little, finally
adding the logo by Maike Liedtke.
- Modified the following company pages:
- Accolade (Law of the West)
- Activision (Lost Treasures
of Infocom, Santa Fe Mysteries: The Elk Moon Murder, Santa Fe
Mysteries: Sacred Ground, Zork: Nemesis, Spycraft)
- Adventure International
- Attic (Ooze)
- Core Design (Heimdall, Heimdall
2)
- The Digital Village
- Infocom (The Lurking Horror, Enchanter,
Sorcerer, Suspect, Planetfall)
- Larsoft (added The Rising of Salandra)
- Level 9 Computing (Colossal
Adventure, Adventure Quest, Dungeon Adventure, Snowball, Return
to Eden, The Worm in Paradise, Lords of Time, Red Moon, The Price
of Magik, Scapeghost, Lancelot)
- Magnetic Scrolls (Jinxter)
- Mainframe adventures
(Mystery Mansion - information about the port)
- Mastertronic (Kobyashi Naru)
- Novagen (The Mercenary
series)
- PolarWare (Oo-Topos)
- Red Orb Entertainment
(The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time)
- Revolution (Beneath a Steel Sky)
- Sanctuary Woods (The Riddle
of Master Lu, The Journeyman Project 2: Buried in Time)
- SCR Adventures (Castle Blackstar)
- Sierra On-Line, Inc (updated

to Doom, SpySnatcher, added download information for almost all
the games)
- Weltenschmiede (Das Stundenglad,
Die Kathedrale, Hexuma)
- Various companies (added
Zakil Wood, Oh Sh@#!)
- Added pages for Daydream, Potter Programs.
- Added more links, of course.
- Moved all old news items to a history
page since this page started to get a bit too long.
- Modified the code to distinguish between official company web pages
and fan-created pages about a company. Also moved all company-specific
links from the links page to the relevant
company sites.
- Removed the bug that caused nested <a>-tags for computer listings
for games under certain conditions.
- Finally wrote the code to display information about one specific
computer version of a game. Lots of information that I have been saving
in the database for a long time is finally visible. Since this affects
all games, you'll have to look through all the pages if you want to
see all information that has been added this time. ;-)
January 4, 2000
- Added pages for Disney Software,
Legend Software, Miles Computing.
- Modified the pages for Activision,

Adventureland page for people who want to help me create a better
Adventureland site.
- Did a couple of updates to the timeline. This is still very sketchy from 1987 and to
the present. Please help!
- Modified the FAQ page a little.
- Added a couple of links as usual. I know
there are quite a few dead links on that page, but I haven't gotten
around to going through that yet. Adding new information feels more
important that removing broken links.
May 25, 1999

like for King's Quest and
another one that caused incorrect links to subpages from the single-computer
overview pages.
March 9, 1999
- Finally started to work on a time line
for adventure games. This is still very much a work in progress, but
any feedback is appreciated. I want it to contain the most significant

only missing Star Control III), LucasArts, Lumpsoft, Magnetic Scrolls (now complete), Sierra On-Line, Inc (added quite a few, lots
still missing), Talent Computer Systems, Telarium Corporation, Trilobyte, Westwood Studios (Blade Runner).
- Removed The Legacy: Realm of Terror from the Magnetic Scrolls page (RPG), Sorcerian from Sierra
On-Line, Inc (RPG).
- Fixed a bug in the creation of the text version of the game list
that caused the last specified game creator to be used for any games
that didn't have a game creator specified.
- Added some new links.
- Added a number of links to computer museums to the computer page.
- Added a couple of files to the download page.
- Added code to make it possible to split large companies over several
pages. See Sierra On-Line, Inc
for an example.
- I'm now down to something like 150KB mail backlog. On the other
hand, the SGML database just passed 400KB heading upwards.
February 6, 1999
- This is without any doubt the largest single update ever, and I
still have about a quarter of a megabyte of mail left that I haven't
entered into the database yet. Keep it coming!
- Changed the name of the pages from "Adventure Game List" to "Adventureland".
Now I only need someone to draw me a nice logo...
- Modified the entries for Abstract
Concepts, Accolade, Acornsoft, Activision, Inc., Adventure International UK, A
& F Software, Artic Computer, Avalon Hill, Brøderbund Software, Bug-Byte, Carnell Software, Chameleon Software, Codemasters, Coktel Vision, Commodore, Core Design,
Creative Sparks, CRL Group PLC, Cryo Interactive, Delphine Software, Delta 4 Software, Domark Software, Duckworth, Dynamix, English Software, Epic Software, Epyx, Firebird,
Gilsoft, Global
Software, Horrorsoft, Brian Howarth, ICOM Simulations, Inc, Incentive Software, Infocom (just a broken link), Interceptor Micros, Interplay Productions, Lankhor, The Learning Company, Level 9 Computing, Magnetic Scrolls, Mark Data Products, Martech, Melbourne House, Microdeal, MicroIllusions, Micro Power, Mindscape, Inc, Mirrorsoft, Mogul Software, Number 9 Software, Oxford Digital Exterprises, Penguin
Software Inc., Players Premier Software, Quicksilva, Robico Software, Runesoft, Salamander Software, SCR Adventures, Sierra On-Line, Inc, Smart Egg Software, Softgold, Superior Software, Taskset, Telarium Corporation, Tynesoft, Ubi Soft Entertainment, Westwood, Various companies.
- Added pages for Acclaim,
Alligata, ATOD,
Boldfield Limited Company (first game
for the Jupiter Ace computer
in the list), Cascade Mountain Publishing, Comsoft,
Cyan, Dream Software,
Games Machine Ltd, Harddata,
Imperial Software, Looking Glass Studios, Jim Mahaffey (the first games in the list for the
Psion Organiser II),
Micrograf, Nemesis, No Man's Land,
Kevin O'Shea, Phipps Associates, Piranha Interactive Publishing,
Progressive Peripherals & Software,
Pulse, Samurai Software, Red Orb Entertainment, Scorpio Software, Soap Bubble Productions, Soft Concern, Spoof Software, Star Dreams, Talent, THQ Inc.
- Added one or more image to the following pages: Abstract Concepts, Acornsoft, Activision, Inc, Adventure International, Artic Computing, Avalon Hill, Brøderbund Software, Carnell Software, CCS, Codemasters, Delta
4 Software, Digital Fantasia, Firebird, Gargoyle Games, Hewson Consultants, Imagine Software, Incentive Software, Level 9 Computing, Magnetic Scrolls, Micro Power, Mikrogen, Mirrorsoft, Mosaic Publishing, Ocean, Players Premier Software, Rainbird Entertainment, Sierra On-Line, Inc, SilverSoft, Tansoft, Topologika Ltd, U. S. Gold. Speaking of cover scans, I'm still looking
for Beyond Zork, Zork Zero and Shogun from Infocom which should be
pretty common. I'm also a bit surprised that so few covers from for
instance Adventure International, Brian Howarth, or Sierra On-Line
have come my way. It seems it's easier to get cover scans of really
obscure 8-bit games.
- Finally fixed the code so that my notes in the database on what
person did what on a game are transferred to the pages. See the Magnetic Scrolls page for an example.
- Changed the companies page so that the
country for each company is printed after the name. As you can see
there are lots of companies that I don't know which country they belong
in. Please help!
- Added some new stuff to the link page.
I also sorted the links a bit.
- Removed The Ring of Darkness and The Return of the Ring (role-playing
games) from Wintersoft, Deus Ex Machine
from Automata UK Ltd, and The Final
Assault (simulator) from Epyx.
- Added better descriptions for the Amstrad CPC and Amstrad PCW computers. Folded the Schneider
CPC game (just one) into Amstrad CPC. Also improved the documentation
of the Sinclair computers (ZX81, Spectrum, and Sinclair QL) and moved a couple of games
listed as for Timex-Sinclair (American clones) of Sinclair machines
to the main categories. Also changed all Spectrum/Spectrum 48K/Spectrum
128K/Spectrum +3 to the Spectrum category (keeping the information,
even though it's not visible on the page right now -- it'll get there
some day).
- Modified the download page so that you
can now download the HTML pages
and the images separately.
- The number of games for the Amstrad have more than doubled from 23 to 66.
The problem is that I really would like these games to go in either
the Amstrad CPC or the Amstrad
PCW category. Please help here if you can.
- Added the new game type Multiple choice for the games where
you only have a list of predefined actions to choose from at any point.
January 24, 1999
- Modified the entries for Adventure International, Alternative Software, Avalon Hill, CRL Group PLC, Enigma Variations, Epyx, Firebird,
Brian Howarth, Infocom, Kayde Software,
Level 9 Computing, Magnetic
Scrolls, Mastertronic, Melbourne House, Ocean, Personal
Software, Quicksilva, Smart Egg Software, Telarium Corporation, Topologika Ltd, U. S. Gold.
- Added entries for 3P Soft, Bytepack, CCS, Cobra Computer Software, Deltoid Developments, DT Soft, Elfin Software Ltd, F+K Ware, Fridaysoft, JJK Research Limited, Jsj Soft Ltd, Moltech Software, Odyssee, Players Premier Software, Rainbow Software, Shadow Software, Shards Software, UK Lead, Videofex, Whalkira
Software, Wrightchoice Software, Zafiro Software.
- Added at least one image to each of the following companies: CRL Group PLC, Legend, Legend Entertainment Company, Mastertronic,
The Ram Jam Corporation, Sierra On-Line, Inc.
- Added an FAQ question about what I really
mean by "Adventure game". Not that it's conclusive, but at least it
gives you (and me!) some idea of what I mean.
- I have added code to handle pointers to reviews of games and pointers
to off-site downloads of games.
October 13, 1998
- Added pictures for Zork I-III from Infocom. There are still no pictures for Beyond Zork,
Zork Zero, and Shogun, though. Also added one or more pictures to
the Adventions and SophistiChaos Game Design entries.
- Updated the entries for Abstract
Concepts, Access Software,
Adventure International, Atlantis Software, Beyond, Codemasters, Domark Software, Hayden Software, Infogrames, Interplay Productions, Legend Entertainment Company, LucasArts,
Mainframe adventures, MicroProse, Mogul Software, Paragon Software Corporation, Radio
Shack, Revolution, Sierra On-Line, Inc (yes, this time as well),
Simon and Schuster, Sir-Tech,
Terminal Software, Various companies, Victory Software Company, Westwood.
- Added new pages for Aventuras AD,
Chameleon Software (moved some
games from Adventure International here), Cinemaware,
Cyco Automatisering, Gargoyle Games, GT Interactive Software, Neo Software, New World Computing, PK Software, Radarsoft, SSI.
- Added bits of technical information for a few of the computer types.
There are still lots of computers that don't have any information,
though.
- Added still more things to the link page.
- Downloaded a new 39K mail batch (lots of incoming mail at the moment).
The total backlog is still down from 94K to 9K.
- For the first time, this list has passed the 1000 games mark! There
are currently 1101 games in the list, distributed among 302 companies.
- I've finally managed to catch up with the backlog of mail, so hopefully
there won't be another update for a month or so now.
October 4, 1998
- Updated the entries for Access Software,
Adventure International,
A & F Software, Argus Press Software, Core Design, Datasoft, Inc, Haunt (the source to Haunt has been
located and posted to the if-archive), Humbug Software/Graham Cluley, IBM,
Infocom (finally added platform information), Level
9 Computing, LucasArts, Microdeal, Mosaic Publishing, Ocean, Penguin Software Inc, Psygnosis, PolarWare, Quicksilva, Salamander Software, Severn Software, Sierra On-Line, Inc (huge update), Telarium
Corporation, Various companies, Wintersoft.
- Added pages for A & B Computing
Magazine, Chymesoft, FGC, Haresoft, HGC, IMS, Kayde, Kenema, Mark Data Products, Mirage, PK Soft, Quarkdata, Softalk Magazine, Softside, Spectral Associates, Tansoft, Tevward Microtech.
- Added a page about the Infocom books.
- Added a textfile with all the information about games and companies
that you can download and print. It's available from the download page (which is also new).
- Added one or more pictures to each of the following companies: Accolade, Adventure International UK, Adventure
Soft UK, Artic Computing, Baudville Software, Bug-Byte, Core
Design, Cyberdreams, Datasoft, Inc, Delta 4 Software, Dynabyte, Firebird, Gremlin Graphics, Hewson
Consultants, Infocom, Level 9 Computing, Magnetic Scrolls, Mastertronic, Med Systems Software, Melbourne House, Palace Software, Personal Software, Radio Shack, Richard Shepherd Software, Sierra
On-Line, Inc. Now I don't have any more pictures lying around
that I haven't added. If you still see a game without a cover scan,
please send me a picture!
- Added a number of things to the link page.
- The Oric-1 coverage increased
from 22 games to 54. It's still not a huge amount, but it's more than
a doubling.
- Even though I downloaded a new 50K batch of mails, the total backlog
has now shrunk from 122K to 94K.
- The SGML file containing the database is today 287485 bytes long.
September 28, 1998
- I finally got my thumb out and implemented a simple search engine
for the database. You can now search for a game if you know (parts
of) its title, company name, year or type. There are still lots of
games that don't have year or game type specified. These don't show
up when you search. Please help to fill in the blanks.
- After a suggestion from Jacob Gunness, I have decided to start a
mailing list for people who want to be notified each time I update
these pages (probably something like once a month). Just send me a message if you want to be on
the list.
- Updated the entries for Adventure International, Avalon Hill, Baudville Software, Cyberdreams, Datasoft, Domark Software, Dynabyte, Electronic Arts, FTL, Gremlin Graphics, Brian
Howarth, Infocom, Interceptor Micros, Interplay Productions, The Learning Company, Level 9 Computing, Mastertronic, Med Systems Software, Melbourne House, Micro Power, Mosaic Publishing, Palace Software, Phoenix Software, Polarware, Richard Shephard Software, Sentient
Software, Sierra On-Line, Inc, Sirius Software, Superior Software, Telarium Corporation, Tynesoft, Ultrasoft, Various companies.
- Added pages for Access Software,
A & F Software, Alternative Software, Ariolasoft, Blue Ribbon,
Dragon Data, Gilsoft, Inscape,
LK Avalon, T. J. A. Thurman, Trilobyte.
- Added Atari 8-bit as a platform
to lots of games, and put all the various models of 8-bit Ataris under
one label.
- The BBC computer has also gotten
lots of games added to it.
- I have added some more stuff to the page about Scott Adams Adventure #14 (again).
- There's still a 122K backlog of mail that I haven't entered into
the database, but I'm still working on it. Not to mention that I have
a lot of pictures to put in, but I have to decode them from the mail
messages while at work and I keep forgetting that, the few times I
have minutes to spare. In spite of this lagging, this is still the
largest update to the list ever (and I made another one last week!).
- For the first time since I started this list, the Commodore 64,
my own first computer, is not the single best-supported platform.
With 309 games listed for both that and the PC, they now tie for the
lead.
September 25, 1998
- Updated the entries for Adventure International, Coktel Vision, Core Design, Cyberdreams, Exxos, Gremlin Software/Exile Designs, Horrorsoft,
ICOM Simulations, Inc, Lankhor, Legend Entertainment Company, Level
9 Computing, Mindscape, Inc,
Paragon Software Corporation, Pendulo
Estudios, Phoenix Software,
PolarWare, Psygnosis, Sierra On-Line, Inc (as usual), Telarium Corporation.
- Added entries for Application Services Company, Inc,
Cryo Interactive.
- I have added some more stuff to the page about Scott Adams Adventure #14.
August 19, 1998
- Re-did the layout of the pages a little and hopefully improved the
look of things.
- Added the FAQ page. We'll see if it manages
to do any good... I'm getting a bit tired of people mailing me to
ask where they can download Sierra games from.
- The site won its first award from something called Elite Gaming Site.
- Updated the pages from Accolade, Activision, Inc, Adventure International, Adventure Soft UK, Angelsoft, Inc, Brøderbund Software, Cognetics Corporation, Delphine Software, Digital Concepts, Dynamix, Eldritch Games Ltd, Electronic Arts, Empire, First Row Software,
Free Spirit Software, Horrorsoft.html,
ICOM Simulations, Inc., Infogrames, Interplay Productions, The Learning Company, Mainframe adventures, MicroIllusions, MicroProse, Sierra On-Line, Inc, Telarium Corporation, and Various companies and probably a few others
that I have forgotten to note here.
- Added pages for Airwave Adventures,
Castleworls Gameware, Jor-And,
Merit Software, Random House, Salamander Software, Sony Electronic Publishing, and South
Pacific Software.
July 23, 1998

to remember in time...
April 8, 1998
- Updated the pages for Westwood,
Magnetic Scrolls, Crystalware, LucasArts, Brian Howarth, Lankhor, Mastertronic, Delphine Software, Adventure International, Interplay Productions, Sierra On-Line, Inc, Accolade, Coktel Vision,

- Finally added a link page.
- The machines page can now include a description of the computer,
as well as a list of the games. There are only a couple of examples yet (please send me more!).
- I still have a 60KB file of saved messages with updates that I don't
have time to enter right now. Still, I figure posting some of the
updates is better than letting all the information wait until I have
time to enter all of it.
December 18, 1997
- Added lots of data for Amigas.
- Added new pages for Apocalypse, Art Department, Attic, Binary
Illusions, Bomico, Coktel Vision, Core Design, Cosmi, Dynabyte, Dynamix, Ego Software,
Empire, Enigma Variations, Exxos, Free Spirit Software,
Gainstar, Game Crafters, IntraCorp, Volker Lanz,
LBS, Lifestyle, Mac Brayne,
Mirrorsoft, Palace Software, Panther Games, Prism Leisure, PSS, Readysoft, Silverbyte, Spacecom, Time Warp, UBI
Soft, and United Software.
December 16, 1997
- Added new pages for Wintersoft, Personal Software, Electric Transit, and The Learning Company.
- Updated the pages for Novagen,
Activision, Inc, Brøderbund Software, Automata UK Ltd, Sierra On-Line, Inc, Microdeal, Magnetic Scrolls, EduWare Services, Inc, Cyberdreams, Bantam Imagic, Softgold, Mountain Valley Software, and Telarium
Corporation.
September 20, 1997
- Rewrote the computer index to have one page for each computer.
- Created a page about the mystery concerning Scott Adams Adventure #14.
September 8, 1997
- It is now possible to download
the entire set of web pages. These webpages contain macros for the
Roxen webserver, but they're still good for off-line
reading.
- Cleaned up almost all mail that has accumulated over the summer,
thus updating the entries for Micro Fun,
Sierra On-Line, Inc, Melbourne House, Bug-Byte, Accolade, Sir-Tech, Activision, Inc, Automata UK Ltd, Magnetic Scrolls, Adventure International, Level 9 Computing, Mastertronic, and Interplay Productions.
- The SGML file containing the database is today 188642 bytes long.
June 29, 1997
June 2, 1997
- It should now be easier to navigate with a non-frames browser (but
I don't have one so I can't test it - let me know if it doesnt' work).
- Added entries for Mogul, Creative Sparks, Oxford Digital Enterprises, SilverSoft,
and Program Power.
- Updated the entries for Interplay Productions, Adventure International, Adventure Soft UK, Robico Software, Topologika Ltd, Acornsoft, Lothlorien, Humbug Software, Telarium Corporation, Delta 4 Software, and Various companies.
- Added a to do page.
- Now incorporates a complete mirror of Peter Scheyen's pages about Infocom.
- Moved the page to a new address. The URL is now http://www.lysator.liu.se/adventure/
(previously http://www.lysator.liu.se/~unicorn/adv/).
- Added the You Can Help page.
- Started to add scans of game covers. See Infocom for an example (the example, actually).
May 25, 1997
May 20, 1997
- I present the new version of the Adventure Game List. This version
now has a separate web page for each company and some links between
them.
- The data is now stored in an SGML database. This is then processed
by sgmls and a Perl script of my own devising to produce the web pages.
- This new version of the file has been updated (finally) with most
of the 800KB of data that has been accumulating over the years when
no updates have been done. OK, a few things are still left in the
file but they need some checking up before they can be added.
Yet later
- Maintenance begins to become difficult and eventually no updates
are made to the file for a couple of years. Updates still trickle
in, but are only put away in a file for safekeeping.
Later
- I start to experiment with creating a separate web page for each
company so that the page won't take forever to load. A version of
this is completed and put on the web, but only as a link from the
normal version and marked as experimental.
Sometime
- I create an incredibly simple and stupid script that converts my
text version of the file to a single gigantic web page.
May 19, 1994
- The file is now 129KB in size.
April 17, 1994
- An 81KB version is posted.
December 16, 1993
October 20, 1993
- A 34KB version is posted.
- I have begun to classify the games
a little.
- This is the first version that lists my own game, Enhanced :-)
July 28, 1993
- The next version of the file is posted, only five days after the
first one. The file has already grown in size to 18K.
- There are still some wonderful mixups in here. Under the heading
Adventure International, for instance, is one listing stating: "Adventure
1-12. For Atari 400/800." Under the heading Scott Adams are some more
games, including at least Adventureland. Oh well.
July 23, 1993
- I post the list on rec.games.int-fiction and ask for additions.
I got lots, and when reading the additions, even more things bubbled
up in my memory and got added as well.
- The first version I posted was
only 6KB, contained information about four different companies and
didn't even list them in alphabetical order.
Mid 1993
- For some forgotten reason, I start to write down everything I remember
about the different adventure games I have played over the years and
circulate the list to a few friends for some additions.
