Sammanfattning (abstract)
In a deregulated telecom market telecom aggregators have become more common. They use call routers to route their customers' calls with the cheapest carrier. The call router has to get updated routing information to be able to do least cost routing. With more advanced call routers more data has to be transferred during updates. This requires that a new faster method will be developed for data transfer to call routers via the PSTN instead of the old methods using DTMF tones.

This report shows how to design a software modem in a call router without adding extra hardware. Many design decisions has to consider the reduced amount of memory and low computational power available in the micro processor that controls the call router.
